These are used for moving Smudge and Incense smoke around in rituals and ceremonies; for healing, centering and cleansing; and also for healing that involves ‘combing out’ inconsistencies, blockages and negativities in someone’s energy field- their aura.
For example, before beginning a ceremony, gathering or similar, it is good practice to ensure that the place in which this is happening, and all the people whom are involved, are all cleansed by having smoke from specific herbs fanned over them. Or, if you are seeking to cleanse yourself and drive out negative energy, you can use a fan or smudge feather to direct the smoke where you want it to go.
Feathers have the capacity; because of the way they are constructed; to ‘comb’ someone’s aura and remove blockages and ‘knots’- rather like brushing your hair to remove knots. Shamans and other healers often use feather fans for this.
The Smudge Feathers hand crafted here are Multi-purpose feathers that can be used for Smudging, Aura Brushing, Meditation, Healing or even as a Talking Feather.
MEDICINE AND TALKING STICKS
The talking stick was used in Native North American tribes at council meetings. It was used as courtesy not to interrupt when someone was speaking. The talking stick was then passed to the next council member who wished to speak. The stick was a ceremonial item and was decorated with eagle feathers and crystals to show its significance.
These days they come in very handy in many group and circle situations. Keeping interruptions to a minimum and aiding a unbiased dialogue.
From a shamanic perspective, these can be used as medicine sticks or as a highly decorative ceremonial wand.
MEDICINE POUCHES
These simple but handy little pouches are designed for carrying with us, our talismans, medicine or alter objects. Shamans and medicine men always have their medicine pouches with them enabling them to produce their magic tools wherever they are. Stones, crystals, runes or any number of power objects can be carried in these bags which are made in the traditional, native way.
PEYOTE STITCH
Peyote stitch, also known as Gourd stitch, is an off loom bead weaving technique. Peyote stitch may be worked with either an even or an odd number of beads per row. Both even and odd count peyote pieces can be woven as flat strips, in a flat round shape, or as a tube. Tubular peyote is used to make pouches or to decorate objects such as bottles or fan handles.
Many cultures around the world have used peyote stitch in their bead-work. Examples of peyote stitch have been found in artifacts from Egypt, and the stitch has also been used in historic and contemporary Native American bead weaving. The name "peyote stitch" derives from the use of this stitch to decorate objects used in Peyote ceremonies by Native Americans in Arizona and New Mexico. The name "gourd stitch" similarly derives from the use of the stitch in decorating gourd containers.
